How darn good can we be?

5 Star Rating 2/07/2011 In a city of buffets, eating at Shari's diner was a refreshing change. This friendly family-run diner is full of great 50s memorabilia - a great experience for Brits to see and Americans to reminisce over. We ate there twice. The breakfasts are modestly priced, served hot (no plates sitting under lamps to cool and congeal) and were massive. I took half the Taylor ham and egg sandwich home for the next day! The scrambles were man-size and my husband can definitely recommend the Stink'n Link'n, served in an omelet pan and piled high with eggs, feta cheese, spinach, mushrooms, sausages and toast on the side. Our lunch visit was to try the homemade burgers and again they are superb for taste and size; cooked to perfection but still moist. The very memory makes we want to drool! Do go for the experience and the great food - you won't be disappointed. Yourtravelgirl G. The Villages, FL

My wife and I started going to Shari's in the fall of 2008 and have been returning ever since with our baby daughter. Why is that so special? It is special because once you go there a few times, you feel like you're a part of the family, and it is a true family operation(3 generations work there!). The food is a definite plus. While I don't care for everything on the menu (who does at any place), we know what we like and stick with those items. The chicken fingers are a great reliable as are the French Toast, meat loaf and Fat Barry's honey fried chicken. The burgers have a very special bun made especially for Shari's. More recently they started serving ribs, and they are a big improvement over anything Tony Roma's has served in years. My 5 stars are for food, family atmosphere, and fun music emitting from the jukebox (which is not a digital monster like other places, but uses a lot of good CDs from the 50s through the 70s).

1/10/2011 My husband and I go to Shari's Diner at least twice a week and we LOVE it!!!The food is always carefully prepared, always to our order and delicious!!We also go there for the atmostphere and the people who run the diner-a family feeling to the place. They know us and what we like and it's always very comfortable and comforting!! I love to music from the juke box-very happy and festive in this unhappy world around us. We give Shari's Diner a 5 star rating!!!

Hi, We were in there a couple of weeks ago. You two came up and visited with us. I had a Sharron Angle shirt on and my husband had a T-shirt that said "I voted for Harry Reid, Please forgive me". You two came up and complimented us on our T-shirts. I'm a bit late in getting this out but wanted to let you know we loved our food and your great hospitality. You made it a personal experience for us. We also want to thank you for having the veggie burger since we are vegetarians. Sometimes we have a difficult time getting food at restaurants. We noticed you also offer grilled cheese. We will be back. We have told many about you and look forward to bringing family there when they visit from out of state. We especially look forward to joining you some night for the Gospel and Grub. What a wonderful idea. You two are special people leading people to the Lord with your example and bringing people together to praise him. Thanks again,

Shari's is a MUST when in Vegas We were over on holiday from the UK, and had seen Shari's Diner on a programme we have over here. We just loved the whole American diner a la 1950's/1960's that Shari and Barry have going on, its fantastic even down to the jukeboxs' at the tables. We enjoyed talking to them, they are so friendly and the food was ace, just as we imagined. In fact, even though we were in Vegas for 4 days we managed to enjoy eating at Sharis twice. If we lived in the area, we would be regulars.........................

TO THE FOOD NETWORK DINERS DRIVE INS & DIVES DDDINFO@MAC.COM Date: Tue, 16 Feb 2010 00:31:08 EST Subject: Shari's Diner, Las Vegas, NV February 15, 2010 Dear Sir, I consider myself fortunate to live only around the corner from the finest casual dining experience in Las Vegas: "Shari's Diner." The retro-style diner is owned and operated by Shari and excels in all areas of "concern" to both the casual and connoisseur diner. The ambiance is elegantly reminiscent of a 50's style establishment replete with red-vinyl seating locations, jukebox and black-and-white tiled floor. The food is consistently delicious and served in an abundant quantity. The service is prompt and considerate with staff servers Diane and Jodi excelling in their duties. The price is more than reasonable and less than you'll find at comparable eateries such as Denny's or Applebee's. I enthusiastically recommend "Shari's Diner" as an enjoyable experience that you'll want to revisit over and over. Yours truly, Arthur A.

02/04/2010 i LOVE iT ! ! ! ! After driving by Shari's Diner several of times I finally decided to eat-in with my sister and friend. We were greeted by Shari's husband. We told him that this was our first time here, and he was kind enough to go through the menu with us and explain. We ordered Milk Shake, Classic Burger, Breakfast, and Chili Cheese Fries. All I can say is Yum! Yum!Yum! The food was great, and the portions were more then enough. This was our first time there, and it wont be the last! Besides the GREAT F00D, amazing customer service. February 3, 2010 Dear Sharis Diner, My name is Christopher and I was out at your diner from the UK last week you may remember me I was with my girlfriend Danielle. A guy opposite bought our breakfast for us just before he left. I want to say how blown away we were to start a day with such kindness it was just amazing! This is the reason I visit the States so much the generosity we get from people all over the country is matched by no one. It was such a experience to feel the warmth from just one person who really touched our hearts that day. We have so many friends in Vegas and all over America and always experience great times in your country. With negativity and stereotypes regarding war and other issues it always brings me back to meeting the real people of any country. Having travelled all over the word I would regard America as a great country with amazing people and this one experience puts that theory into real life experience. I can't thank the guy enough or you guys at the diner for your kind welcome only hold a place in my thoughts for that special day for the rest of my life. I will always welcome any American into my country with open arms such as I was welcomed. Kind Regards.

Chris Jones :)

Finally ! A Diner in Las Vegas!!! I grew up in the New York / New Jersey corridor where diners were a way of life. Shari's is the closest thing to those diners in Vegas in a long time. The food is fresh and prepared as you order it not like the restaurant chains loaded with microwaves. I had lunch followed by a piece of home baked apple pie a la mode which was great. The service was friendly and down home ! Give Shari's Diner a try !

Arnie

I have to tell you, SHARI'S DINER IS THE BOMB!!! The food is fantastic, VERY generous portions, and absolutely filling in a nutritious way. I also learned that everything is served fresh, NO CANNED VEGGIES! MY KIND OF RESTAURANT!!! LOVE the juke boxes! That 50's feel is such a great atmosphere! You've gotta visit Shari's Diner: YOU'LL LOVE IT!

MY HUSBAND & I HAD DINER AT A 50'S DINER A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO THAT IS LOCATED ON THE SOUTH EAST CORNER OF LAKE MEAD BLVD. & BUFFALO. IT IS CALLED SHARI'S DINER. AFTER EATING AWESOME FOOD WITH GREAT PORTIONS AND REASONABLE PRICES WE SPOKE WITH THE OWNER SHARI (THE DINERS NAME SAKE)AND HER HUSBAND BARRY (WHO HAS QUITE AN INTERESTING PROFESSIONAL HISTORY) AND FOUND OUT THEY HAVE BEEN THERE JUST ABOUT A YEAR. THE RESTAURANT IS VERY NOSTALGIC. LOTS OF NOT JUST GOOD FOOD BUT "DARN GOOD" (AS THE SIGN SAYS). BURGERS WITH FRESH MADE BUNS, AWESOME FRIES, POT ROAST THAT MELTS IN YOUR MOUTH, FRESH WARM & SWEET CINNAMON ROLLS; OH I COULD GO ON BUT IT IS JUST MAKING ME HUNGRY. IT IS FAMILY FRIENDLY, A FAMILY CAME IN WITH 6 OR 8 KIDS AND THEY DIDN'T BAT AN EYE. WE TELL EVERYONE ABOUT THIS PLACE BUT I WANTED TO DO A LITTLE MORE TO GET THE WORD OUT WHICH IS WHY I AM SENDING YOU THIS EMAIL. WE THINK YOU WOULD BE DOING YOU READERS A FAVOR BY FEATURING THIS GEM IN YOUR COLUMN. EVEN IF YOU DON'T REVIEW THIS GREAT LITTLE RESTAURANT, AT LEAST STOP BY AND TREAT YOURSELF TO SOME "DARN GOOD FOOD"

This location has been through a few iterations over the years, but it is now known as Shari's. From what I read in the local paper (http://www.lvrj.com/ne...) it is a family owned and operated establishment. Upon entering, you can confirm this, as it feels like it. The staff was very friendly. I went on a Sunday ~11am, and the place was jumping. Could have been because of the recent write-up in the RJ, but they said that weekend business has been brisk for awhile now. I had the monstrous breakfast sandwich (it has a funny name that escapes me right now), the wife had a burger, and the kids had pancakces. All was quite good, and nothing felt fake or processed. I am growing tired of the places that just deep fry everything. Not this place. I went for lunch a few days later, had their classic burger, and it too was quite good. They have a sauce with it that is tasty, and they didn't bat an eye when I asked for gravy-fries (I think it must be an East Coast thing). The Chicken Vegetable soup was really excellent, probably the best part of the meal. Very fresh, seasoned just right. I reserve 5 stars for only my favorite haunts, which would leave them at 4 stars. I took one star away, because I feel like when the bill was tallied, it felt a little pricier than it seemed going in. Thus they get 3, which is still good in my book. Oh, one last thing, they use great buns! Not dry and stale like the stuff you get at some places.

to Sharisdiner@gmail.com Just a little note to let you know how much we enjoyed your diner and that we thought you guys were the best, when we were out there last December. We were there with Adam & Bethany K. (who live near your diner). We will there again during Thanksgiving week, and looking forward to eating at your diner again. We think your diner is the greatest!!!!!!!!!!!

I've eaten three or four times at Shari's Diner. Since I live far southeast, as opposed to northwest where Shari's is located, I don't get the chance to go there but on occasion. I am always telling people about this place, because the food is great with reasonable pricing.

This place is a walk down memory lane. I come to relax and reflect on a time when life was more simple. I can't remember a time since I have enjoyed a meal so well. The servers will come and sit with you to chat if you want. Everyone truly cares about you and your experience.

Shari's Diner is fantastic. Great food, great music, the staff is friendly and service is fast. Shari's Diner is on my exercise route and sometimes, while doing my 6 mile bicycle ride I stop for Ice Tea and a cup of soup. You've got to try Colette's soups. Colette is Shari's daughter and she whips up great home spun recipes. Fantastic !!! If you just want to sit, relax and have a light breakfast, this is the place. They have some fantastic desserts as well.

MIKE

I love Shari's Diner! As soon as you walk in it feels like you are part of one big food loving family :) The food is amazing. My favorite is their chicken burger with pineapple rings! I definitely make my way over to Shari's Diner whenever I am back in Vegas. Its just like Cheers "Where everybody knows your name!"

TALK OF THE TOWN NEWS

Darn Good---Shari's Diner serves up great portions and reasonable prices with a 1950s feel, right down to the brushed steel, neon lights and the working Wurlitzer jukebox---bring your quarters! Unlike so many other restaurants, Shari's Diner is a family owned and operated establishment (you might even be waited on by the owner). The soups are homemade and very good, and despite the claims of other establishments, the burgers here are indeed the best in town. Shari's is a unique experience, and a very family-friendly one as well.

Veggie Burger at Shari's Diner ""A" Rating- You’ll find all the usual veggie burger trappings here, but it’s the little things that make this sandwich stand out. Amid the de rigueur lettuce, tomato and onion, the Shari’s cooks lovingly nestle rings of fresh green bell pepper. It’s such a small addition, but one we haven’t seen anywhere else, and the bell pepper adds crunch and the perfect clean, crisp flavor. The “burger” patty itself nicely navigates the road between being just another bland faux-meat disc and veering into the land of the overworked, crumbly, handmade veggie burger patties that have started popping up in some of the city’s finer burger joints. It’s flavorful, and the bits of veggie, grain and seeds maintain a nice texture. Have the Shari’s staff throw some sweet potato fries on your plate, and you’re set.

Shari's Diner is one of the finer eating establishments in Las Vegas. A diner? Oh yeah!

Simply wholesome American diner food & great service 4 stars My wife and I dropped into Shari's for lunch, attracted by the 'retro' diner motif. We were not disappointed. A simple lunch consisting of a salad and a Philly cheese (chicken) sandwich truly hit the spot. While not crowded, the other customers appeared to be 'regulars' and the staff couldn't have been more helpful, patient and good natured. The menu is fantastic with all-day breakfasts, deli sandwiches, soups and salads. And milkshakes! Kids would go 'bananas' over this place. Anyone with a hunger pang traveling along Highway 95 near the Las Vegas suburb of Summerlin would be well advised to drop off at West Lake Mead Boulevard and drive a few more blocks to Shari's. We live on the other side of town and happened to be in the neighborhood for business, but we will return and stretch out on Shari's broad menu and throw a couple of quarters in the jukebox. Who said you can't enjoy the good ole days?

The burgers are tremendous, half-pounders cooked just right and without the fancy fluff from those places on the Strip. The buns are outstanding, shiny on top, fresh and spongy. The signature burger has avocado and bacon, lettuce and tomato, and it's all you want in an American cheeseburger. The food is reliably hearty and the service is fun and friendly. I'm not afraid to say the burgers can compete with the best in Vegas.

Why would anyone go to Chili's or Applebee's for family-friendly recession specials when you can pay less for better food at locally operated mom-and-pops like this one? This neighborhood has caught on, and the hard-working, friendly crew at Shari's is reaping the benefits. Brock Radke, Las Vegas Weekly

" Very friendly and a great atmosphere Food was excellent. The owners go out of their way to make sure that your dinning experience is a very pleasant one. they show that they care about the quality of their food. this should be on everyone's list of dinners to visit. On our scale it is a 10"

Buck and Manae Palsgrove

" This place was the reason why I created our meet-up. This diner was really excellent! Family owned and operated and the owners talked with us alot. All the food was fresh and homemade and really really good! I really didn't expect this place to be as good as it was, I expected something like Denny's. I was wrong! The meals were very inexpensive too which is great in this economy. I expect this to be a recession proof diner! "

Diner food for a business lunch? Why not? It's quintessential comfort food, and in this economy who, even tangentially connected to the business world, couldn't use a little comfort food? Numerous readers had contacted me to sing the praises of Shari's Diner, so off we went.

Shari's Diner dishes up spiritual food first

Shari's Diner brings some of the glory of the '50s, with shiny jukebox-era stylings and comfort-food favorites.

Good, plentiful, and affordable. Breakfast is around $5. Dinner is about $10. Your coffee cup stays full, and you can play some groovy jukebox music for two bits. On Sunday night, the dinner offers all-you-can-eat spaghetti for $6. If the high-flying Marnell family ever tires of the posh atmosphere at M Resort, the coffee's always hot at Shari's Diner.
